I am an Aotearoa NZ trained osteopath, having completed a bachelor’s degree in Musculoskeletal Health and Postgraduate Diploma in Osteopathy. Through osteopathy, lifestyle modification, mindful exercise, and postural awareness I work to promote recovery and health in each individual. I am most interested in working with adults, young and old, to recover from injury, manage chronic conditions, and to thrive.
Injury recovery and health promotion are achieved by developing an understanding, in partnership with the client, of the causes of their pain or dysfunction as well as potential predisposing factors. I believe that the client’s understanding of their condition is key because as individuals we are so much more than the sum of our parts. Our physical condition is the result of both recent and historical inputs, in a physical sense everything we do is a form of training; we physically adapt to the life we lead.
Our mental state is no less important, our state of mind influences our posture, our ability to heal, and our desire to thrive. Helping clients to understand the inherent healing capacity of their body and the tremendous capacity they have in influencing their own health outcomes is the most rewarding aspect of my calling.
Before finding my way into health care I was involved with environment care! As an environmental scientist I worked investigating and restoring contaminated groundwater and soils, which involved driving drill rigs, geospatial data modelling and consultation report writing. During my osteopathic training I was often surprised by how useful some of the fundamental skills developed in my former career were to the practice of osteopathy.
Fulfilment beyond work involves bikes, kayaks and flying, all supported by the rock that is my little family in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
